Lyngen Alps and Orcas

To catch the tide and before the next strong winds arrive, we had to leave Bergsfjord 2 a.m.

Breakfast after the first five hours of sailing; carlic soup and a sandwich.

Heading against the wind down into the Lyngenfjord.

Several layers of clothes because of the sub-zero temperatures.

Last snowflakes, before we arrive...

...at Hamnnes.

A nice old traiding port, but very expensive and anfriendly because of "overtourismus". Everyday there is a new small cruising ship.

The next moring we went higher with the snowshoes. Due to very warm temperatures (12°C) and a lot of rain, the snow is melting very fast.

A very big lowpressure systeme brings...

...the next storm.

Nonetheless we try to reach Kjelvågtinden (1'104m).

Windchill around -20°C. There is no room for exposed skin.

Only two days later the next lowpressure system brings the next storm. Nowbody here remembers such bad weather during winter time.

Time to bake cakes and pizzas.

And finally time for some puzzles...

...and maintenance work.

After one week we were able to sail northeast to Skjervøy.

Flat clous announcing...

...the next bad weather. But before that, we take the chance...

...and bring back a small motorboat to Bergsfjord for friends. They were diving with Orcas the whole week around Skjervøy. Fast travel on almost flat waters.

Best conditions to spot Orcas with their young. All the whales arrived now due to the herrings.

A bit further out we met an other Orca...

...who's curious and looking out of the water.

Crossing the path of the big fishing ships, who are chasing the herrings - the bigger ones catching over 100 tonnes with one net...
