Circumnavigation of the North Cape

Heading north again with the tide. Calm sailing in the lee uf the islands.

Waiting two nigths for better winds...

...in this lovely anchorage. Unfortunately there are fallwinds from time to time and a tide is running from the inner pool.

Going for some fish. Unfortunately this is a very famous place to catch the strong halibut. After almost loosing our fishing rod due to this crazy fish, we had to stop...

The houses are all open and it's permitted to spend the night there in emergencies.

The Samis used to bring their reindeer to this shore every night, because they were afraid of the ghosts in the mountains.

We only encountered one curious young animal. But found lots of shed antlers.

With strong southerly winds, we were able...

...to head further northeast...

...and circumnavigate the north cape.

Just half an hour before we could reach safe harbor, a strong front arrived and we had to use the enginge on high rpm to go against the wind.

Done, we reached this years northernmost point - only the champagne was no longer the finest, after ten years on board...

Skarsvåg, a small fishing village with about 60 residents and reindeers...

...every where, even on the roads.

Getting ready the next day 2 a.m. to head back around the Cape with the tide.

Due to strong predicted winds, we stoped on Ingøy.

Currently 28 people live here.

Unfortunately, the shop owner, in his 80s, died this week and it is unclear whether the grocery store will continue to operate.

There are also relaxed rabbits living in the village.

They don't let them to be disturbed.

The next day we took the ferry to Havøysund to get some stuff. It's important to call the ferry in advance, as it only appears on call.

Not only people are transported, but also food, building material, cars and...

trucks.

... to explore the surroundings. An old abandoned fishing boat.

On the right, there is a 160m high shortwave radio antenna. Which is said to be the tallest man-made structure in Norway.

In only one hour we were able to collect more than 2 kg :-)

And making jam with the berries.
