Sunny hiking days on the Lofoten

Bye bye Værøy - with little wind but strong currents (in the Maelstrom up to 7kn with tidal overfalls - we give this notorious area a wide berth) we are heading north at midnight.

Before arriving at Sørvågen, the wind dropped to zero...

... perfect to geht some lunch

... with great mountains in de background.

Although we have sailed through the night, we packed our hiking backpacks...

... and explore the surrounding area in the evening.

View back to Værøy, the last island we visited.

View back to the harbour, where the big coastguard stopped and sent a fast RIB to our port. Fortunately we where up here, so they couldn'd check us. But they did not forget us...

The mountains arround here are rarely higher than 1'000 meters, so to reach the tops, it takes you only one to two hours (very steep hiking paths).

There is still enough snow on the northern slopes to whizz down :-)

Quiet evening (around 10 p.m.).

Five lakes collect at these waterfalls...

... this is also the supply water to the village...(no swimming and camping allowed).

... therefore no swimming and camping allowed.

Therefore, we had to wait until back in the harbor to cool down.

The next morning at 4a.m., Daniela started to the highest mountain in the region (Hermannsdalstinden, 1'029m).

The hikes follows the fives lakes and passes the public mountain huts (usually it's a two day hike).

It's very quiet, the other hikers still at sleeps in the huts and tents.

Curious alpine ptarmigan...

... at this time of year you can hear them very often..

...they change their plumage up to four times a year.

After 7km and four hours finally on the top.

Great view ofer all the other peaks.

Amazing colours, wherever you look.

On the boat, the day was used to run the washing machine.

Heading to the village on the end of the Lofoten highway. We were lucky and the town sign was not stolen for once...

Fishing village like in the old days.

The next morning we went up again at 4 a.m. to climb the very famous mountain Reinebringen. Due to numerous accidents...

... they built a stair with more than 2'200 steps. Fortunately, this early, we were still the only people up here :-)

But now there are even more accidents as more inexperienced tourists dare to climb the summit. In wintertime, almost every day helicopters have to rescue people...

View down to Reine. From Reinebringen, where the offical path ends, we continue on a nice ride...

... there is some small climbing - so we have been allone all the way to the next peaks.

And then off to a coffee in Reine, a place that is flooded with tourist buses. In the moring we walked all over this ridge von left to right.
